Building Bridges
As one of our projects for our technology class we decided to study structures and materials. The students in the grade 6 and 7 class built model bridges out of toothpicks and glue. The students were sure that their bridges would not hold any weight. After many days of drawing plans and building practice bridges out of toothpicks and sticky tack, the students built their final bridge. We tested the bridges by placing our pretend cars, trucks, and buses (large rocks from outside) on the bridges. Some of the bridges held up much better than we thought they would. I think the students were all pleasantly surprised by the outcomes. They enjoyed testing the bridges, but they really weren’t interested in the planning and drawing.
