An International Thanksgiving
What do you get when you combine 7 single American ladies, one single American guy, a family of 6 Americans, their parents, 2 South African foster children, a African guy, a South African gal, and 3 or 4 refugees from the DRC in the same house?
The answer is….
Our Thanksgiving this year!
We Bethesda gals were all blessed with the privilege of sharing our Thanksgiving dinner with Josh and Marda Mack and their family in Pretoria. We had a great day of playing games, watching movies, eating WAY too much food, and sharing memories from Thanksgivings past. It was almost the same as home except for the fact that it was warm enough to swim in the dark after we ate and that there was no football to watch. We were even able to share in most of the common Thanksgiving foods we would have enjoyed back in the states. Our dinner consisted of turkey, butternut squash, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn casserole, and pumpkin pie, cheese cake, and apple cobbler for dessert. It was a great time of fellowship with so many brothers and sisters in Christ; truly a family affair!
- Heather and I taught Steve and the girls how to play Aggravation.
- Reading Go Dog Go to Musi and Zanele before dinner
- Some of the guys hanging out before moving to the dining table
- The Mack family and the interns sharing Thanksgiving memories and traditions.
- Marda went all out on preparations for all of us. We each had a special place card to make us feel welcome at the table.
- Everyone gathered around the table for our wonderful meal.
- Musi, Zanele, Katherine, and I letting our food settle before partaking in all the lovely desserts.
- One of the benefits to the Southern Hemisphere is that it’s warm enough to sit outside and chat after the meal.
- Oh yea, and you can even take a dip in the pool to work off the extra calories if you’d like.
