ABC books
A is for…Africa, B is for…Bethesda, C is for…Children. While I was out of school a couple of weeks ago, I had my students start a project with the substitutes. The project was to write an ABC book with a description about where they live. The book would then be edited and illustrated and then be published (sort of) to read to the grade R students during our English class sometime in the near future. On Monday of this week, the books were finally ready (after 2 full weeks of working on them) and the students were prepared to read to the ever excited grade R children. I had given my students the speech the on Friday that if they weren’t REALLY interesting and animated while they were reading, their grade R partners would NOT be interested and would probably NOT listen to them. I was OH so fun to listen to them interact with the little ones and encourage them to work on their letters and sounds. I wish I had a video camera with me because the pictures don’t really do justice. Let’s just say there was a lot of “Big letter A, small letter a…a, a, Albert!” It was a super fun experience and the grade R teacher even copied one of my student’s books and sent it home with all of her parents at her conferences so they could practise the letters and sounds with their children at home by reading aloud.
- Lerry did very well with Lesego and Mpho.
- Lerry was SO fun to watch. He made all kinds of funny voices and asked his boys lots of questions about the pictures and words.
- Kgothatso did a great job of keeping Tumelo involved with his story.
- My room was a very busy place for about 40 minutes on Monday.
- Masego did a good job with Rebecca and Amo.
- Shane and Ororiseng were two peas in a pod!
- Moeletsi is definitely a big brother who knows how to entertain. He had Masego and Jack’s undivided attention.
- Bongani was very sweet and soft spoken with his two quiet girls.
- It was fun to hear how Moeletsi kept the boys interested.
- Lerry had his kids on the edge of their seats…literally.
- Kgothatso really got Tumelo’s attention!
- In spite of her usual quietness, Riah was able to keep Albert’s attention for the whole alphabet book!
