World Cup 2010…GO USA!
Heather and I were extremely blessed (and surprised for that matter) to find out on Tuesday night that there was a possibility that our friends Janet was going to be able to get us tickets to the United States v. Algeria World Cup match. We weren’t for sure until about 12:30 on the day of the game, but it came through and the tickets were available to us. The added blessing was that we didn’t even have to pay for them…Janet and Michele covered the cost.
So, Wednesday afternoon, we arrived at the game about an hour and a half before kick-off. The entire atmosphere was something to be remembered. When we arrived, there were already MANY Algeria fans cheering and getting excited for the game. As the Americans started to drift in, the level of anticipation built in the stadium. Through several close encounters with the goal in the first half, we unfortunately went in to the half scoreless. Most of us in the stands already knew that England had scored in their game and that for the US to carry on, they must win the game. After another 45 minutes, there was still no score and we were into the injury minutes. For the first time in the game, with only a matter of minutes remaining, the Algerian fans were silenced and the American fans had something exciting to cheer for.
It was a great game to be a part of an something that’s definitely an opportunity of a lifetime. Extra excitement was added by the fact that the Americans won!
I know that envy is a sin, but FREE TICKETS TO A USA WORLD CUP GAME!!! That’s almost as bad as the last World Cup in Germany, when the U.S. played Italy in Kaiserslautern (I used to live near Kaiserslautern from 1982-1987 when Dad was in the Air Force). It looks like you had a great time.
